We are looking for a full-time DevOps Engineer 2 to join the Core Technology Team at our world headquarters in the Kansas City area. The software engineer administers, develops and supports software engineering tools within Garmin's engineering group. .In addition to designing new software and performing maintenance on existing products, devops engineers develop scripts in Python and Perl They also test software using debuggers, emulators and simulators; perform software releases and software quality assurance activities; and work collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin associates. Other essential functions include:Create and maintain programs and scripts and automate routine tasks whenever possibleSupport software engineering applications installations and upgradesSupport database-related needs for software engineering applicationsCollaborate and add value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestionsEvaluate, integrate, administer and support new applicationsSupport monitoring and testing of software engineering applicationsSupport application server capacity planning, backups and other server-based activitiesSupport disaster recovery activitiesProvide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniquesPerform technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problemsServe as a mentor to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1)Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments on some electrical design aspectsApply Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeedQualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math or Physics or a technical field (such as CIS or IT) from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of one-year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. Other requirements include: Must possess a minimum 1 year of work experienceExperience using Git and Gerrit (or similar source code manager)Experience with Jira and Confluence as well as Windows, Linux and Mac operating systemsProficiency writing Python OR Perl scriptsDemonstrates mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)Desirable Qualifications Include:HTML, Javascript or other related web technologiesApache web server experienceExperience with Artifact repository manager (Artifactory, Nexus, Archiva)Relational database experience (MySQL or PostgreSQL preferred)Experience developing in Java or C++Demonstrates mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
