We're a fast-growing startup based in Austin, Texas that is revolutionizing how students find their postsecondary path and helping K12 districts improve outcomes.

We provide the most modern and exciting solution on in our category for students and drive student engagement and usage more effectively than our competitor and we have shipped a set of powerful, data-driven tools to help districts stay on top of student performance.

You'll be working with a talented team of engineers, designers, and product people who have shipped 50+ features in the last 2 years and have established SchooLinks as a company that has found product-market fit and transitioned us into a hyper-growth phase. You would join one of our three pods as an individual contributor and then depending on your career aspirations would move to more senior individual contributor roles or into an engineering management track.

We're a team of 24 right now, so you'll also be an important part of determining our future, our roadmap, and being a part of product decisions.


We're looking for an experienced and passionate backend and infrastructure engineer who is at home writing code, making architectural decisions, and growing our team by bringing and growing best practices.

We're Hiring For An Experienced Python/django Engineer Who Has

  • 5 + years of experience overall
  • 3 + years of experience working with django/DRF
  • 3 + years of experience working with AWS
  • 3+ years of experience working with some time of SQL database in production
  • Experience building, supporting, and planning production

Nice to haves -- experience with the following technology that we use regularly
  • Celery
  • Redis
  • AWS Lambda
  • Jenkins
  • React.js

Domain experience/interest in the following areas are a bonus
  • ETL and data integration with third party systems such as Student Information Systems
  • Educational data
  • Workforce development and career exploration
  • Predictive analytics around educational outcomes

If you've grown teams and been responsible for executing and delivering these areas at scale (and have hiring and leadership experience) we're happy to consider you for more senior director, manager, and VP roles.

We may consider exceptional candidates that have slightly less experience, but this is not a role for junior engineers.

Screening Process

Below are the the three

  • Recorded Video Questions -- If we think based on your application and resume that you'd potentially be a good fit, we will send you a link to a program that asks you some questions about yourself and Django/BE development. This video will go to our engineering leads/management to watch and decide if they'll take you through the interview process. The recording takes less than 15 min.   • Live Coding Challenge - we'll have you make a simple Django app from scratch and test your knowledge of Django (models, ORM, migrations, etc) and DRF (class-based views, viewsets, serializers, class-based filters, etc.). You will do this challenge over zoom with one of our engineers

  • Requirement Planning Challenge- We will give you designs + requirements and a series of questions to about your understanding of the designs and see what questions you would need to ask about this project to be able to plan your implementation. This is to test your communication skills, planning ability, and product sensibilities. You will be given the information ahead of time and we expect you to spend 1-2 hours prepping and thinking about
