We're looking for a Staff Engineer to lead a small team of engineers working on our FishTrack product. FishTrack has a die hard user base of offshore fisherman relying on data sets provided by the FishTrack apps to find fish from Wahoos to Marlins. As the lead engineer. you'll own every aspect of software engineering for the FishTrack brand from ETL processes to APIs to native app development. You'll be armed with a small team of engineers who will be domain experts in native apps and API development. You'll work hand in hand with a Product Manager and Designer driving growth for the FishTrack apps. Today FishTracks APIs largely run on Coldfusion and you'll own the maintenance of these whilst developing modern replacements. The ideal candidate will have deep Coldfusion experience but also experience in Javascript, Node and Python. In addition to owning FishTrack you'll own the maintenance of a number of other legacy Coldfusion systems which are scheduled for replacement by other teams by mid 2021. We expect that maintenance to be limited allowing you to focus on FishTrack. You'll mentor other engineers on the team either by direct instruction or setting a strong cultural example. As a Staff Engineer, you'll be able to take complex initiatives, devise a strong technical solution and get it done. We're looking for someone driven by a desire to deliver user experiences that other companies aspire to, capable of working in a broad set of languages and able to skill up in unfamiliar languages and SDKs quickly. We're after someone extremely proactive, able to wear multiple hats and deliver.

What You'll Do:

• Own Coldfusion maintenance for Surfline Wavetrak's brands
• Write efficient, clean, readable, fast, testable, documented, monitored code and systems
• Architect and deliver to production without hiccup, the next generation ETL pipeline and API applications for FishTrack
• Squash critical bugs and solve performance issues
• Come up w/ solid technical solutions to ambiguous technical problems affecting multiple products
• Accurately estimate large projects involving challenges including major external dependencies, intra-team collaboration, or exceptionally difficult technical requirements
• Ship code often in a fast paced agile environment with continuous deployment
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to more junior devs
• Lead discussions and present on technical topics in internal tech talks
  

• Significant Coldfusion experience
• Production experience with Python, Javascript, Node, Microservices and Docker
• Understanding of infrastructure as code (like Chef/Puppet/Ansible, Terraform/Cloudformation)
• Experience working with AWS services including ECS, SNS/SQS, Lambda, S3 and Cloudfront
• Solid experience with NoSQL DB's (like MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Redis)
• Experience with MSSQL
• Solid troubleshooting skills
• Served as a technical lead of a team
• Experience fostering a TDD culture
• Top-notch communication skills
• A BS/MS in Computer Science or related degree

• Experience with Airflow and/or AWS Batch
• Experience with Varnish
