Position

Software Engineer III

>> this position has 100% REMOTE option
Myriad is a genetic screening and testing company . Our genetic screens provide actionable information, empowering women and their families to make critical and timely healthcare decisions, whether they're thinking about starting a family or evaluating risk for cancer. Find out more at

Our tests are powered by an automated sequencing lab and software that truly covers the full technology stack: robotics, automation, scientific compute, data pipelines, variant calling/interpretation (bioinformatics), data visualization, risk calculations (population genetics), electronic medical records (EMR), patient and doctor user experience (UX), and solving key workflow problems in large complex health systems.

This technology stack enables us to provide actionable information to almost a million patients per year.

About The Position

Each patient sample can contain thousands of mutations. The genomics team is charged with the clinical interpretation of these mutations - going from those thousands to the few that cause rare diseases, predispose you to elevated cancer risks or challenge the health of your pregnancy.

The software you write, above all else, ensures accurate results for patients but also enables us to accomplish this goal at scale. Because this task is not a pure software problem our team is inherently interdisciplinary. Strong software engineering fundamentals are essential but so is the ability collaborate with our genetic counselors, scientists, laboratory directors and many other groups.

Here are some recent projects that software engineers on the genomics team have worked on:

  • Building an API gateway to serve data generated at different physical labs.
  • Publicly sharing mutations that we have classified.
  • Automating time consuming and clinically critical processes performed by our laboratory directors.
  • Improving our patient risk calculation by incorporating new types of data.
  • Developing an ETL pipeline to compute mutation frequencies across all mutations that we've sequenced and updating those values in real time as we sequence new patients.
  • Integrating a new external data source into our clinical interpretation pipeline.
About You

A genomics background is not required! Solving these problems fundamentally requires software solutions. We're looking for great software engineers - strong generalists with solid CS fundamentals and practical software engineering intuition - to help us scale up genomics to millions of users. Engineers who thrive here love collaborating with both engineers and non-

engineers alike, are constantly learning, and are willing to work through ambiguity to deliver the best solutions for patients and healthcare providers.

If you're interested in working with a modern tech stack, brilliant coworkers and products that influence millions of people's lives, this is the place for you.
  • 2+ years of software engineering in industry or academia under your belt as demonstrated by prior experience, GitHub account or personal web page.
  • Proficient with a high level language and web framework. We use a Python/Django/React stack.
  • Proficient with a relational database system. We predominantly use PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Unix, Git, Docker and a cloud computing platform. We use AWS.
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative environment with folks from different professional backgrounds.
